Edge Hill Women 2025 Season Review: Resilience, Recognition, and Regional Success

The 2025 season will be remembered as one of the most successful in Edge Hill United’s proud history with the Women’s team completing a remarkable Treble — being crowned Premiership Winners, Grand Final Champions, and Crad Evans Shield Winners.

Beyond the silverware, the campaign was defined by resilience, teamwork, and the integration of emerging talent into a strong and experienced squad that represented Edge Hill United with pride and professionalism throughout the year.

A Season of Determination

The campaign presented its share of challenges, with the team navigating injuries, player unavailabilities, and a demanding schedule. Several players balanced commitments with the FQ Academy program and NQ Peninsula and other school responsibilities, testing the squad’s depth and adaptability throughout the season.

Despite these obstacles, the group continued to perform with consistency and professionalism. A key storyline of 2025 was the successful integration of younger players into the senior setup — with several making their first-team debuts — alongside the leadership and stability provided by the club’s experienced core. The blend of youth and experience created a dynamic, united squad that embodied the values of Edge Hill United both on and off the pitch.

The title reaffirmed Edge Hill United’s status as one of the leading women’s sides in Far North Queensland.

Progressing to the State Final against Brisbane’s powerhouse who had just been crowned the FQPL 1 champions, Olympic FC, the team delivered a strong performance despite a 2–0 defeat, demonstrating their ability to compete with some of Queensland’s best. Their commitment, structure, and spirit throughout the campaign earned widespread respect across the competition.

The season also saw key individual accolades that highlighted the calibre within the squad:

  • Valentina Oberdan claimed the Golden Boot with 28 goals and was named Player of the Year, underlining her impact as one of the region’s most influential attacking players.

  • Dean Ashton, head coach of the FQPL Women’s team, was recognised as Coach of the Year after guiding the team through a challenging and rewarding campaign marked by development and success.

These achievements reflect not only individual excellence but also the collective strength, professionalism, and culture of continuous improvement that define the Edge Hill Women’s program and its clear pathway for players.
